The core objective of Debt Management is to ensure that the Government of Belize meets its financing needs in a manner that minimizes both cost and risk. This involves the strategic mobilization of loan financing to support the successful implementation of Government programs and initiatives.
Key responsibilities include:
- Mobilizing Financing: Securing necessary loans to fund Government activities and investments, ensuring that all financing is obtained at the most favorable terms possible.
- Monitoring and Evaluation: Continuously assessing the performance of Government investments to ensure effective allocation of financial resources and the achievement of desired outcomes.
- Debt Management: Overseeing the management of the Government's debt portfolio, both domestic and external, with a focus on sustainability, transparency, and minimizing exposure to financial risks.
The goal of effective debt management is to ensure that the Government’s borrowing strategy supports long-term economic stability while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
