Foreign Exchange Control

In accordance with the Exchange Control Regulations, 2003, the Central Bank of Belize must approve financial transactions concerning dealings in gold and foreign currency, as well as financial transactions between residents and non-residents involving exports and imports; the purchase, sale, and transfer of property and securities; and the borrowing and lending of funds.

Additionally, The Ministry of Finance is also a duly authorized agency to process and approve Foreign Exchange Permits for current transactions only.

Online applications should be made using Central Bank’s online service Only.

The procedure to apply at MOF using hardcopy documents is as follows;

  1. Download XCH-1 Application for Foreign Exchange Form or receive a hard copy from your bank or at MOF office.

  2. Deliver the completed XCH-1 Application for Foreign Exchange Form in a sealed envelope clearly referencing “XCH-1 Application” along with a contact name and number to:
    Foreign Exchange
    Ministry of Finance
    Sir. Edney Cain Building
    City of Belmopan, Cayo

    **A DROP BOX has been placed for these to be inserted into.

  3. The Application for Foreign Exchange Forms will be processed by the end of the next business day.

  4. The customer will be informed of the application status via a telephone call for confirmation of pick up at the First Floor of the Sir Edney Cain Building.
